Malignant Narcissism and Absolute Power
But' tis a common proof,
That lowliness is young ambition's ladder,
Whereto the climber-upward turns his face:
But when he once attains the upmost round,
He then unto the ladder turns his back,
Looks in the clouds, scorning the base degrees.
By which he did ascend.
Act II, Sc. i, II, 21-27

maybe its a good thing to be scared of heights?
In that poem, Height is a direct equivalent to Power.
and Narcissistic people sought power at every endeavor, hence seeking to climb to new heights all the time.
