Hope and Dissapointment

It is the end of another year. Brilliant or Bad, this I shall leave it up to you to decide yourselves. Often, people equate Christmas to holidays, presents, familiy, some-home. "Home" was my case and also to many of my Melbourne friends. We packed our luggage and hearts, all ready to have a blasted good time back in our own countries with our old friends, i thought so at first as well, but that was really our mistake.

Many of us were "expecting", to be welcomed once we reached the airport (not implying that I did); some thinking they will be treated differently than before; some just wanted all the time to hang out with their friends. All of which, are expectations. In the last few days of Trinity, the air was thick with anticipation, though the types of nationalities in Trinity are vast-China,Singapore,Indonesia,Hong Kong and such, despite the different backgrounds, all of them had a common wish that is- once they get back, the days back in their home would be better than of those in Melbourne.(even the boring aftermath of exams would change for the better) but now, (back in Malaysia) I felt that, it wasnt all too bad back in Melbourne, not bad at all.

MSN nicknames were like tombstones, each stating the time and cause of death. Everyone was lamenting, some cursing the misfortune that befell them (all with coincidence or not-happened after they've returned from Melbourne)

Negative moods sweapt across the people like an uncontrolled plague. Alot of us suffered from depression (and heat-for those of you staying near the equator =) ) alot of us, suffered from dissapointment.

We are dissapointed because we have expected too much from our return. Some of our friends have already joined other educational faculties and have also returned, but with a totally different set of friends. Brotherhoods, fellowships and covenants alike are now broken. It makes us all want to jump back into The Land Downunder where everyone was...well...not so miserable. I myself wasnt expecting much. thanks to my early return from Melb back in September, I have learnt not to expect.

To all Trinity students and my friends- dont be so down when things didnt go your way or hit your mark, at least you are home. make the best out of it, you will definately miss these days once you are back in Melbourne. But, learn from this re-visit -dont expect.

a quote from warhammer 40k- "Hope is one step to Dissapointment". tis sad but true.
